Schumacher drove to victory at Sundays Grand Prix and won his first race since last June! The scenario was very similar to last year but with the roles reversed! Schumacher led from the start and looked very dominant and comfortable with the pace. The pressure was really only on when Alonso managed to creep up from fifth to second and get right up the Ferrari's behind. The result was very tense driving with only tenths of seconds between the pair but even when the performance started to deteriorate Alonso just couldn't find a way past Michael. Schumacher was understandably elated when he crossed the line in P1 for the 85th time in his career safe in the knowledge that he had won the "home" race. It was a perfect weekend overall for the German having broken another record by qualifying in pole for the 65th time beating the late Ayrton Senna's total of 64. It wasn't all plain sailing with problems starting early in the race for the Ferrari. "The car never really performed like it did in the beginning and it was quite a struggle," said Michael, "We started off okay after my first pit stop and then we had some trouble, I don't know what it was, we just have to check the car," he explained. "There was some graining but not a big issue honestly" |
