Button has disappointing race E-mail Print

Jenson Button missed out on a potential podium this weekend after two of his pit stops didn't go to plan.

The Briton had a great start and was keeping up with Michael Schumacher in second place from the very beginning. The Honda was looking very strong on performance and it definitely had the pace to get the job done which Jenson is finding increasingly frustrating.

During his first stop there was a problem with a wheel nut which delayed his stop by two seconds. During the second stop he was released when the Fuel nozzle was still attached to the car taking it and the mechanics with him. He had to wait for the mechanics to take the nozzle off before letting him go. This meant he dropped from third place to eventually cross the line in seventh.

Although Button declined to criticise the actions of Chief Mechanic Alistair Gibson, and defended him by adding that he is a very professional man who will not let the same mistake happen again, he was never the less disappointed that it ruined the outcome of the race.

"It lost us a podium probably, The car was running very strong and I think we could have had Montoya" [who went on to finish third].

"So it's disappointing, but I know that the way Alistair works he'll never do that again - he'll work his hardest to make sure that doesn't happen.

"The pace was there but you can say that till the cows come home. If you're quick and you don't get the result, it doesn't make any difference."

Jenson is currently lying in 6th place in the championship with 23 points and is desperate to turn his competitive streak in to solid points and podiums.
